IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT

My paintings with squares are partly a response to this photo of my husband's grandmother Neva when she was a little girl along with a quilt she made out of dress scraps when she was eight or nine. She grew up in a time when women were expected to stay home and not take an interest in the outside world.
I made quilts too, but I found sewing tedious. I only loved the patterns and colors involved. So now I pretend to make quilts with paint. I think Neva might have liked to do that as well.
