IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT
My series of paintings with squares are partly a response to a photo I found of my husband's grandmother Neva when she was a little girl along with a quilt she made out of her dress scraps when she was eight or nine. She grew up in a time when women were expected to stay home and not take an interest in the outside world.
I was also a quiltmaker for a while, but I found sitting at a sewing machine and being in the house difficult. However, I love the patterns and colors involved with quilting, I just want to make them with paint! I think Neva might have liked to as well. My paintings with squares in particular are a celebration of my freedom.
