IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT
My paintings with squares are partly a response to this photo I found of my husband's grandmother Neva when she was a little girl along with a quilt she made out of dress scraps when she was eight or nine. She grew up in a time when women were expected to stay home and not take an interest in the outside world.
When I made quilts, I found sewing tedious, but I love the patterns and colors involved with quilting. I just want to make them with paint. I think Neva might have liked to as well. My paintings with squares in particular are a celebration of my freedom.
