The last eight days have been devoted to worrying about my friend who's in the hospital. She's one of those people who's always game for a good time, who looks stylish, loves to entertain, takes risks, and who I consider an excellent role model. But she's in her 90's and things aren't going that well at the moment.
I'm lucky to know a few women like her and it makes me unafraid to grow old. I think this series of paintings is like them. They're a little crazy and very cheerful, but they've also been through a lot of changes and have a lot of history showing through. That's what makes them interesting to me.
